Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished compliance professional to lead our company’s overall compliance efforts. The SVP of Compliance will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive compliance program and culture that ensures adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, i.e., trade, product, facility, and data. This role will play a critical part in safeguarding our company’s reputation, mitigating risk, and fostering a culture of ethical conduct.  The SVP of Compliance will be the subject matter expert and compliance leader for iHerb.

Job Expectations

  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust compliance program that addresses all relevant legal, regulatory, and industry requirements that reflect the organization’s unique characteristics
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks across the organization
  • Provide strategic direction to the management team on compliance
  • Prepare and present clear and concise compliance reports to the Board
  • Interact with regulators on compliance issues
  • Lead the organization’s effort to elevate compliance programs and compliance overall to a level where they can provide reasonable assurance to senior management and the Board that there are effective and efficient policies and procedures in place, that are well understood and respected by all employees, and that the company is complying with all regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate efforts related to audits, reviews, and examinations
  • Develop policies and programs that encourage managers and employees to report suspected fraud and other improprieties, without fear of retaliation
  • Coordinate internal compliance review and monitoring activities, including periodic reviews of departments
  • Stay abreast of evolving regulations and industry best practices, keeping leadership informed of potential impacts on the company
  • Monitor changes in the business, such as: new geographies, new channels, new categories, etc. and the related compliance needs for these potential changes with an eye to being highly proactive in managing risks and updated/new programs around these initiatives
  • Develop and deliver effective compliance training programs for all employees
  • Oversee internal investigations into potential compliance violations and recommend appropriate corrective actions
  • Build and manage a team of compliance professionals and ensure effective communication and collaboration across departments
  • Investigate and respond to compliance incidents, allegations, and inquiries
  • Report directly to the CEO on all compliance matters
  • Foster a culture of ethical conduct and compliance within the organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Strong leadership attributes are a primary requirement
  • Proven experience in compliance leadership roles within the e-commerce industry or related field.
  • IPO and public company experience
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risks and implement effective controls.
  • Experience managing regulatory relationships and audits.
  • Ability to communicate complex compliance issues clearly and effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing regulatory requirements.

Experience Requirements:

  • Generally, this role requires a minimum of fifteen (15) years of regulatory and compliance or related experience with ten (10) years of management experience and at least five (5) years of executive experience
  • Extensive public company experience required, minimum of five (5) years preferred 
  • Experience in consumer-packaged goods (CPG) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) 

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelors in business administration, law, or a related field
  • Advanced degree highly desired

Judgment/Reasoning Ability:  Able to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment, poise and diplomacy.  Ability to use judgment and reasoning skills, and determine when to escalate issues, as required, in a timely manner.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear. The Team Member is frequently required to sit, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers, bend, stoop and reach with hands and arms.  Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day.  The Team Member may occasionally lift or move office products and supplies up to 25 pounds.  Proper lifting techniques required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
