My Story

Steve John is a Founding Partner and senior consultant at John and Snyder, a boutique advisory firm dedicated to helping organizations grow, engage, and retain exceptional in-house legal talent. With decades of experience, Steve has partnered with Fortune 500 companies, national civil rights and environmental nonprofits, and major private foundations to recruit legal leaders and build high-performing legal teams across diverse specialties, including corporate governance, tax, commercial transactions, intellectual property, litigation, and employment law.

In addition to his recruitment expertise, Steve works closely with General Counsel and legal departments to strengthen internal relationships and team cohesion. He brings a systemic approach to team development, guiding in-house legal functions to operate with greater alignment, trust, and strategic clarity.

Steve is a certified executive and systemic team coach, holding credentials from the University of California, Davis, and the International Coaching Federation (ICF). His coaching practice supports executive leaders, General Counsel, and senior attorneys navigating career transitions, leadership challenges, and organizational change. He also facilitates team coaching engagements designed to unlock collective performance and build resilient, inclusive cultures.

A passionate advocate for equity in the legal profession, Steve collaborates with clients to design hiring, development, and leadership practices that support greater diversity and belonging across the legal ecosystem.

Steve earned a master’s degree in Leadership with a concentration in Organizational Innovation and Change from the University of the Pacific. He holds a J.D. from UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), where he later served as a trustee of the UC Law SF Foundation. He also holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Utah.
